It's time to decide our New Year's resolutions. Most resolutions are broken within a few days, and only a select few see it through the whole year.
I've found that the key to a successful New Year's resolution is to pick ones that are:
- achievable, so starting small instead of asking too much of yourself;
- something concrete, so the resolution is sharply defined instead of fluffy, meaningless handwaving; and
- measurable, so that you can track your progress towards your goal.
So instead of saying “lose weight”, choose, for example, “lose 7 kg of weight in 21 weeks”. It's setting a reasonable, well-defined target, and by weighing yourself regularly, you can keep on course and avoid any nasty surprises.
What are my New Year's resolutions this year? I'm glad you asked. I have just one:
- be better organised.
